What is “Elder Law” anyway?

Elder Law encompasses counseling, planning, and document preparation for the following:

  1. Who will be your legal health care advocate if you cannot speak for yourself?
  2. What are your wishes for the type of care you do and do not want?
  3. Who will manage your financial affairs if you are incapacitated — and what rules do you want followed?
  4. Who will inherit your trust and estate? How and when will they inherit your trust and estate?
  5. How will you avoid probate and minimize taxes?
  6. What is your plan for payment of any future long term care? What public benefits, if any, might you qualify for?
